What is Parish Social Ministry?

Parish Social Ministry takes the Gospel message and puts it into action. We respond to the needs of one another with compassion and care, respecting the dignity of each individual.

“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.”

St. Matthew's Gospel 23:35

Respite Care

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Respite Care Program is a Social Ministry developed to serve the parents in our community who have children with special needs that include autism, down syndrome and cerebral palsy. It was initiated to provide a much needed break for parents to have some time to themselves.

In addition we hope to change lives through these relationships as our volunteers continue to experience growth in understanding and awareness. Our special needs children will know that Our Lady Queen of Martyrs is a very special place, a place where they are truly welcome, a place where they can relate to others and be understood, a place where they will have fun in a safe and caring environment. They are matched with trained volunteers, both teens and adults, for a morning of fun and safety while engaging in various games and activities and they have a wonderful opportunity for socialization and companionship.

Our Respite community meets on the last Saturday of every month from 9:30 am to Noon. Families who wish to participate must register beforehand through Parish Social Ministry at 631-754-9045 or e-mail mryan@olqmparish.org
